MONTHLY SPEAKER:Dr. J. Drew Lanham, Alumni Distinguished Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Clemson University

Tuesday, September 27, 7 – 9 pm
COLA Auditorium, located in the College of Liberal Arts
RIT Campus

promoYou won’t want to miss this! Drew Lanham is a birder, hunter, writer, and profound thinker about man’s relationship to nature. In his twenty years as Clemson University faculty he’s worked to understand how forest management impacts wildlife and how human beings think about nature. In his teaching, research, and outreach roles, Drew seeks to translate conservation science to make it relevant to others in ways that are evocative and understandable. As a Black American he’s intrigued with how culture and ethnic prisms can bend perceptions of nature and its care. Drew is also a widely published author and award-nominated poet, writing about his experiences as a birder, hunter and wild, wandering soul. His first solo work, The Home Place-A Colored Man’s Love Affair with Nature was published in 2016.By turns angry, funny, elegiac, and heartbreaking, The Home Place is a remarkable meditation on nature and belonging, at once a deeply moving memoir and riveting exploration of the contradictions of black identity in the rural South—and in America today.

Put both these events on your calendar!
