RBA Young Birder Event: East Spit & Braddocks Island

August 24 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

Sanderling (L), Black-bellied Plover, and Baird's Sandpiper (R) - Braddock Bay East Spit Island - © Dick Horsey - Oct 10, 2018

The newly constructed barrier beach off what is known as the East Spit has become a major attraction for migrating shorebirds including a half-dozen sandpipers and both yellowlegs, plus occasional sightings of Black-bellied Plover, Red Knot, and Ruddy Turnstone.  In order to view them, however, we will need to get to the island by wading across a small channel that can be knee-deep water depending on the water level and wave action.  Wear boots or water shoes, and shorts or pants that roll up.
