A few questions for local birders

We received more than 200 responses to our survey and the survey SAYS…give birders an optics event in Rochester! So we’ve partnered with Braddock Bay Raptor Research to co-sponsor a mini optics sales event at Bird of Prey Days April 23-24.

Save the date and meet us out there during PEAK hawkwatching season!

  • Specifically, this would be held at BBBR's "Bird of Prey Days" the third week in April at Braddock Bay 🙂

It is a busy time of year, so I don’t know whether I would have the time to attend this year.

  • I was at the Space Coast birding festival Jan. 20-25 which had many vendors showing everything from binoculars to bird tour companies. Having all those vendors makes it fun for everyone even if they are just looking. You also learn by having all the equipment there, like I know I am going to buy an adapter some day to mount my camera to my scope, now I know what I need after talking to the guys at Eagle Optics and seeing first hand the setup.

I attended one RBA meeting, and was very anxious to hear the speaker. However, the speaker declined to wear a microphone as he could project his voice and a mic was not needed. Wrong! Every time the speaker scanned the audience, I could neither hear him nor read his lips! Until the meetings become friendly to hard of hearing members, I won’t be attending your meetings! Thanks for allowing me to vent!!!

      Anne,
Sorry for the tardy reply here! We don’t have enough volunteer manpower to monitor the comments closely, but we do monitor our emails.

This issue of sound/hearing is an important one that we are focusing on. We encourage all speakers to use a microphone and may be purchasing our own in the next month or so. Plus our new venue – the Baptist Temple – has much better accoustics. Please try again!

Include both spotting scopes and binoculars.

I am quite sure that I will not be going north in April, but if I were I would definitely attend the event that is described above.

I would be interested in the how to shop for quality optics also but couldn’t select two options.
